School History

1985

Brihaspati starts its journey with 59 students with the school located at Dhobi Khola. The First Principal was Mr. Pushkar Lohani. Mr. Maurice Banerjei joins the school as Principal towards the end of the first academic year.

1986 The School moves from Dhobi Khola to Naxal, in front of the Police Headquarters. Student body becomes 250 big.
1987 Student body becomes 521 strong. New buliding taken on rest at Naxal chowk.
1988 Student population at Brihaspati reaches 771. Another building added as classroom. School starts participating in outer events. Students are introduced to Scouts. Gymnastics is introduced for the students from classes 2­5.
1989 Mr. Anand Guruung joins school as the Vice­Principal. Computer Studies is introduced at school, making Brihaspati one of the first schools in Nepal to do so. Brihaspati wins lots of accolades in inter­school tournaments including Nepal Scouts annual dance competition and the Jawaharlal Nehru centenary On­The­Spot Painting competition.
1990 First batch of students give SLC from Brihaspati. Mr. Maurice Banarjee, due to age and health, becomes Academic Director. Mr. Anand Gurung becomes the new Principal.
1991 French is introduced as third language in the school. Brihaspati does exceptionally well in extra­curricular activities. Club concept is introduced to the students and various clubs including Dramatics, Photography, adventure clubs, etc. are established.
1993 Brihaspati shifts to a compound within the Balmandir.
1996 Mr. Maurice Banarjee passes away. Students participate in International Education and Cultural meet program in Japan. Mr. Suman Theeng Lama leaves school.
1997-98 Music classes added to regular classwork. The longest academic year.
1998-99 Sachindra Praradananga becomes the first Brihaspati student to come in the Boards of SLC. The school also wins the Birendra Naitonal Shield, which is the highest achievement in the educational area. UN Mock season, SAARC summit (Mock) are introduced.
1999-00 Along with the rest of the world Brihaspati also enters the new Millennium with a bang.
2001-02 Brihaspati extends its lease to compound within Balmandir for 30 years. In cricket two of our boys are selected for the Junior National Team.
2002-03 Brihaspati crosses twenty years of providing excellence in education. Ashmita Panti of class Vlll launches her first book of poems entitled "Kopila". School wins lots of inter­ school tournaments including Lira Cricket Tournament, Father Niesen Hokey Tournament, Shree S.N.B. memorial Inter School Cricket Tournament, Inter School Debate Competition organized by EPS.
2006-07 Mr. Anand Gurung passes away. Mr. Suman Theeng Lama, who was the Vice Principal before, becomes the Principal. Japanese Dance Program performed by students from Japan. Scout attend a Jamboree Camp held in Kolkata, in India. School wins Baba Inter School Basketball Competition, The Father Nison Memorial Hockey Tournament and the Inter School Sports Quiz Competition.
2007-08 10+2 brought into the school compound. Stream of Science added to already existing Management stream.
2008-09 A Level, under the affiliation from the University of Cambridge, started.
2009-10 School celebrates its Silver Jubilee with a lot of fun and active participation from the Alumni.
2010

School wins the Brihaspati Silver Jubilee Open Girls Football Tournament.
